Winefest 2018

Ms. WineFest 2018
Ms Winefest 2018, Amy Richardson, with the "Bacchus".

On Saturday, September 8th, the Club hosted our annual WineFest, and entertained a jovial crowd made up of members, guests, former Wine Queens and the new crop of Ms WineFest contestants!

The highlight of the night was the crowning of our 2018 Wine Queen. Doris, Amy and Ingrid each made an excellent effort to win the crowd’s votes, but at the end of the counting, Amy Richardson was crowned our 2018 Ms WineFest!

Attendees enjoyed a vast array of international foods and dessert prepared by our kitchen team, all of which were designed to complement the flavorful “Old World versus New World” wines served at each of four large tasting stations.

Located throughout the clubhouse, each tasting station was hosted by a different Wine Queen contestant: Doris Romingh, Amy Richardson, Ingrid Schlanger and the reigning Roswitha Sinn, each assisted by helpful volunteers.

Wine Queens of the past hosted the event, and German traditions were well represented with a rousing performance by the Heimatklange. They rocked the house as there were tables full of people of swaying to the sing-alongs!

Many thanks to all our volunteers that made the event gorgeous, delicious and exciting… and a huge thanks to all the members, new and returning visitors who filled Our Haus with so much joy!

Current and past Ms Winefests

Enjoy a German wine village festival atmosphere, with tastings, appetizers, and a carefully selected menu to enjoy with your whites or reds. Music, sing-alongs, and most importantly, the wine!

Everyone knows that Germany is home to festivals that serve beer, but did you know that the world's largest wine festival is held also in Germany. The D'rkheimer Wurstmarket is the world's largest wine festival with over 600,000 visitors each year. It is held annually on the second and third weekend of September. During the fall, there are many wine fests all around the German Wine regions. There are regular restaurants, but also "Strausswirtschaften," a type of wine tavern in Germany's winegrowing areas that is only open during certain times of the year. Typically it is a pub run by winegrowers and winemakers themselves, in which they sell their own wine directly to the public. Guests can sit on benches and drink local wine and try local food!

The American-German Club of the Palm Beaches cherishes this German tradition and holds its own Weinfest in the first weeks of September. For the last few years the club has chosen a Wine Queen, "Ms Winefest" to serve as the club's own wine ambassador. In a guest's choice ballot during the Winefest, a Wine Queen is chosen and crowned on this festive evening.
